The city of Stoke-on-Trent is
made up of the six federated towns of Stoke, Hanley, Tunstall, Fenton,
Longton and Burslem. The Stoke South constituency is made up of the towns
of Longton and Fenton and the local communities around them. It covers the
7 City Council wards of Fenton, Blurton, Longton North, Longton South,
Meir Park & Sandon, Trentham & Hanford, and Weston & Meir North.
Known throughout the world as
the ‘Potteries’, Stoke-on-Trent is a city with a rich industrial heritage,
which includes Wedgwood the potter, and Reginald Mitchell who designed the
Spitfire.
Stoke-on-Trent is an
excellent place to live: the people are friendly
and beautiful countryside is within 10 minutes of any location
in the City. We have great
transport links and a big range of things to see and do all within the
locality.
Stoke-on-Trent's
rich industrial heritage was based on a highly skilled, creative and
committed local workforce, rich natural resources and excellent transport
links and these are the key assets that will, with proper
leadership, attract investment to improve the fortunes of the
area. Stoke-on-Trent has suffered more than most, and according to the
statistics in the Centre for Cities report (February 2010) it has more
challenges to overcome than majority of other cities. A step change is
needed now.
Whilst it will be
tough, the area has a lot to be proud of:
It is still home to
creative International brands like Dudson, Steelite, Moorcroft and
Wedgwood
Our local
universities, Keele and North Staffordshire, present an excellent
platform to encourage new knowledge based industries
Stoke City Football
Club are an excellent brand for the City
Robbie Williams has
international reach and is passionate about his home town (investing in
it through "Give It Sum")
Phil Taylor, 15
Times World Darts Champion, is an excellent ambassador for the area
Vote for change - our
City and in our particular young people deserve it.
